Old Odell

The Town of Old Odell is the primary settlement in the surviving ruins of the city of Fredericton, the capital of the region that became the Acadia Wasteland. The settlement is part of a relatively minor faction known as Free Acadia, consisting of unaffiliated neutral settlements which dot much of the former province of New Brunswick; to a certain extent it can be thought of as the capital of the faction, given its proximity to the Stub and access to (arguably, control of) the Wolastok River.
Background[edit | edit source]
Pre-War[edit | edit source]
Though a provincial capital, the city of Fredericton was thought to be relatively low on Communist China's list of nuclear targets, however this was not to be the case, and owing to its proximity to LAFB Gagetown the city was, in fact, hit during the Great War. However, its hilly structure and relatively low density meant that portions of the city largely survived. The city was actually home to two vaults: Vault 1518 and Vault 1519.
Post-War[edit | edit source]
As a result of having been the site of Vault 1518, the neighbourhood surrounding Odell Park on the city's south side (as defined by the river) was populated relatively quickly after the war concluded. Stan Goodbridge, an early evictee from the vault as part of the Vault-Tec experimentation programme within it, founded the settlement of Old Odell, though he would later leave from the city to found the neighbouring city of Rabbit Town, though by 2200 Old Odell, Rabbit Town, and Moreland had all fused into a single community.
Periodically the city fights skirmishes with the nearby city of Maryland over control of the Moreland fortification.
Society[edit | edit source]
To this day Old Odell remains independent, and is largely populated by either residents of Vault 1518 or their descendent. Because it controls the Stub and Moreland, Old Odell is an important hub for trade across the wasteland, and as a result is more liberal about newcomers and mutants than Carleton; especially necessary given that the river bypasses the Eye.
